Environmental Education Center August 21 to 27


The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.


CHILDREN/TEEN PROGRAMS

Birth of a Butterfly
            Thursday, August 24 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
            Children ages 4 to 6 will explore the life cycle of a butterfly through
                        stories, crafts, and a field walk.
            Fee is $9 per person

ADULT/FAMILY PROGRAMS

SUP Beginner Yoga (Stand Up Paddling) – NEW PROGRAM!
            Wednesday, August 23 from 1:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.
            Adults will meet a professional at Spruce Run Reservoir for a lesson and
                        guided excursion where participants will get up, stand up, and
                        enjoy Zen on the water. 
            Fee is $100 per person.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM
            Saturday, August 26 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk
            through the Great Swamp.
            The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

            Sunday, August 27 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.
Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk
            through the Great Swamp.
            The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

Sleepy Snakes – FREE PROGRAM
            Sunday, August 27 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Family and friends of all ages will learn the truth about snakes and dispel
            the numerous incorrect myths.
            The session is free.

 “The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Admission Is free.

Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
